The Daily Rambling Artist - Creating With the Flow of Chaos
The Daily Rambling Artist - Creating With the Flow of Chaos
I remember early in my art career, I wanted to be very in control of the creations. That impulse didn't last too long. I had no inkling of any type of ADHD diagnosis in myself, but I very much knew that my inner world was chaotic. Early growth for me as an artist came from embracing that chaos.
It started in photography. Things wouldn't go as planned, so often, but instead of getting frustrated, I would embrace the situation and reset the situation to suit the thing that was no longer an obstacle.
By the time I started painting full-time, I had more than 10,000 hours of these improvisational occurrences. I viewed creating in this other medium as moving through everything. One of my favorite things to be asked is what my medium is, because it's always the same answer, “whatever gets in my way.”
